What to Expect During an MVHR Service Appointment

17 December 2024 | HRV

A MVHR system is a crucial home appliance, keeping control of condensation, maintaining comfort and managing indoor air quality.

Annual servicing is recommended for a MVHR system to keep the dirt, debris, muck and everything else away from key parts, keeping the system doing it’s thing as effectively as possible.

Working 24/7 to help remove moisture – did you know a family of 4 creates up to 24 pints of moisture PER DAY from cooking, hanging clothes to dry, showering, boiling the kettle etc…

Here’s a detailed guide on what happens during an MVHR service appointment and what you can expect from the process.

The MVHR Service Process

Acomprehensive service targets the key parts of the system that need attention.  Clogged motors and heat exchangers can result in the system not working correctly and a higher probability of replacing the parts before their usual lifespan!

The service begins with cleaning and sanitising the inside of the MVHR unit and its motors. Dust and dirt can accumulate inside the unit over time, reducing efficiency and compromising air quality. Cleaning these components restores the system’s functionality and ensures it operates smoothly.

Next, the heat exchanger is cleaned and sanitised. As the core component of the MVHR system, the heat exchanger is responsible for recovering heat from the outgoing air. Keeping it clean ensures efficient heat transfer and prevents blockages.

Filters are then replaced as part of the service. Standard filters, such as Basic Barrier G3 are included, but you can opt for upgraded filters depending on your needs. Fresh filters are crucial for maintaining airflow and preventing pollutants from entering your home.

Choose your filters based on your indoor air quality needs:

The Dust Destroyer- Our dust destroyer has improved filter density and coverage. If you are sensitive to house dust, dust mites, or allergies linked to these particles, this upgrade is ideal.

The Summer Sneezer- A higher-grade filter for common summer allergies. If summer brings nose blowing and itchy eyes, the Summer Sneezer is the best upgrade for you.

The Proper Stopper- This is the highest-grade filtration option for your MVHR heat recovery system. It is ideal for high-pollution areas with traffic particulate concerns and for those with high sensitivity to airborne particles. It’s also the perfect option for anyone concerned about their indoor air quality. This option provides complete filtration and is typically added within the ducting network. It filters out very fine dust, combustion particles, bacteria, viruses, and smaller spores.

The service also includes cleaning and sanitising the in-room air valves, which control the distribution of air throughout your home. Over time, these valves can collect dust and debris, impacting performance.

Our engineers will then check the condensate connection to ensure proper drainage of moisture. A clogged or faulty connection can lead to water buildup, affecting both the system and your home.

A test of the boost controls is conducted to confirm that the system responds correctly when additional ventilation is needed. Whether it’s cooking fumes or increased humidity, boost functionality is essential for maintaining air quality.

The service concludes with an airflow test and re-balancing. This step ensures that air is being distributed evenly throughout your home, maximising comfort and efficiency.

Finally, you’ll receive a detailed service report. This report outlines the work carried out, the current condition of your system and any recommendations for future maintenance or upgrades.

Preparing for Your Service Appointment

To make the most of your MVHR service appointment, ensure the area around your system is accessible and clear of obstructions. This will allow our engineers to carry out their work efficiently and thoroughly.

With regular servicing, your ventilation system will continue to provide the clean, healthy air and energy savings your home deserves.
